Points and championships
How points are scored, how the two titles are won and how ties are broken.
- The points systemThe top 10 in a Grand Prix score 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 points. Sprints pay 8 points down to 1 for the top eight. There's no fastest lap point any more.
- The Drivers' ChampionshipThe driver with the most points from every Grand Prix and sprint in the season becomes world champion. Every result counts, and points stay with the driver if they change team.
- The Constructors' ChampionshipThe team title, decided by adding up the points of both cars across the season. It decides how prize money is shared, so it matters to teams as much as the drivers' title.
- Points for shortened racesIf a race doesn't reach 75% distance, reduced points are given on a sliding scale. No points are given unless the leader completes two laps without a safety car.
- How ties are brokenDrivers or teams level on points are split by who has more wins, then more second places, and so on. If that doesn't work, qualifying results are used.
